Matrix Pack stand-up doypack pouch for coffee and dry goods

A doypack is a flexible stand-up pouch that holds its shape on the shelf and has largely taken over from rigid packaging for coffee, snacks, pet food, sauces and dry mixes. Let us walk through how it is built, which formats exist and where it genuinely pays off to use one.

In short

A doypack (from the English word doypack) is a pouch with a bottom gusset that opens into a flat or oval base, which is exactly what lets the package stand on the shelf. The body is multilayer film (PET, PE, PP, PA, AL, metallization or kraft), and on top of that you can add a zip-lock, spout, valve or euro slot. Minimum order from 5,000 pcs, design development is free, printing from 1 to 9 colors.

What a doypack is and how it is built

A doypack is a stand-up pouch that gains its volume from a bottom gusset: the gusset opens up, and the pouch stands steadily the moment product is poured or filled into it. The name itself comes from the English term doypack. The whole idea boils down to one thing, combining the compactness of flexible film with the convenience of rigid packaging. Empty, it takes almost no space; full, it looks presentable right there on the shelf.

The walls and base are welded from multilayer film, and none of those layers is there by accident. The outer one carries the print and adds strength, the barrier layer keeps out oxygen, moisture and light, and the inner one forms the hermetic seal. We match the exact stack to your product and the shelf life you need.

What a doypack is made of: materials and layers

The material has to answer three demands at once: barrier, appearance and safe food contact. In practice, these are the structures we reach for most often:

PET + PEBase structure for dry products, good print, transparency where needed
PET + AL + PEMaximum barrier with an aluminum layer for coffee, spices and powders
Metallized filmA barrier close to foil, lighter and cheaper than an AL laminate
Kraft + PENatural look for eco positioning, with or without a window
PA (polyamide)Puncture resistance for heavy and sharp products

We keep PET, PE, PP, PA, aluminum, metallization and kraft on hand, so we build the structure around your product, anything from a simple pouch for nuts to a complex barrier laminate for coffee with a degassing valve.

What doypack formats exist

The basic stand-up shape is then tailored to how someone will actually use the product. These are the options that come up most:

  • With a zip-lock: reclosable fastening for snacks, cereals, pet food and anything consumed in portions.
  • With a euro slot: a punched hole so the pouch can hang on retail display fixtures.
  • With a degassing valve: it lets carbon dioxide escape from freshly roasted coffee without letting air back in.
  • With a spout: a screw cap for liquids and paste-like products such as sauces, drinks and gels.
  • With easy opening: a tear notch that opens the pouch neatly, no scissors required.

Which products use a doypack

The format is versatile enough to hold both food and non-food goods equally well:

  • Coffee and tea: with a valve and a barrier layer that keep the aroma in.
  • Snacks and sweets: nuts, dried fruit, chips, granola, candy.
  • Pet food: dry and semi-moist rations, usually with a zip-lock.
  • Sauces and liquids: a spout doypack makes dosing easy.
  • Dry mixes and groceries: cereals, flour, spices, protein, baby porridge.
  • Cosmetics and household chemicals: gels, powders, laundry products by refill.

Advantages of a doypack over rigid packaging

So why choose it over cans, bottles and boxes? The gap shows up quickly, both in cost and in marketing:

  • Empty packaging weighs and occupies a fraction of the space, which cuts logistics and storage bills.
  • Full-color printing runs across the whole surface, so the pouch doubles as a brand showcase from day one.
  • The stand-up shape and generous information area pull the eye on a crowded shelf.
  • A zip-lock or spout makes the pouch that much more convenient for the buyer.
  • It leaves behind less waste after use than rigid packaging does.

How a doypack is made and printed

It always starts with a conversation about the product, where we agree on the film structure, size and options. Then we prepare the artwork, and design development is free with us. Printing runs from 1 to 9 colors, after which the film is laminated, cut and formed into pouches with a welded base and seams. Standard production time is from 7 to 14 days. Minimum order is from 5,000 pcs, and a trial batch from 3,000 pcs can be arranged separately. The company has operated since 2016 and delivers orders across Ukraine.
